I’m someone who tries to be the best person they can be and believe it helps me in fulfilling my passion for helping people. I have a profound interest in the human experience and find sincere joy when people understand, appreciate, achieve or discover the strength and resilience already inside of them. I am heart-centered in my approach and believe that you possess what you need to experience a full life.
I don’t take myself too seriously and have pride in my humility. I am the author of my own life and you are the author of yours and I allow this thought to inform how I work in therapy. I believe supporting you means 'meeting you where you are at', without judgment and without an agenda. I strive to lean into compassion, curiosity and confidence and allow these qualities to be present our during sessions. I am conscious of my social location when working with you and maintain awareness of my unconscious biases and their impact on the therapeutic experience.
I hold a Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) and am a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I have over seven years experience working with individuals in hospitals as well as community settings and have provided support for individuals experiencing anxiety & depression, grief/loss and addictions.
I love seeking knowledge in this work and am committed to ongoing education. Below are some areas/psychotherapeutic models which I have received specialized training in:
My wife and I love animals and share a home with our English Bulldog, Gus, and British Short Hair Cat, Remi. I think getting a Great Dane would be a great addition to the family, but our home would need to grow more rooms before doing that.
I’m also (very slowly) improving my ability to cook. In my free time I love try my hand at new recipes and explore different restaurants for inspiration.
I love that I’m able to be in a space where I can support another human being on their journey through life. It brings me a deep sense of connection and a love for humanity when someone is willing to share that space.
Please feel free to reach out at nick@thesacredself.ca if you think I might be a good fit in your journey - I’d be happy to chat more!
