About Sheena
I love couples work. Some therapists find it too challenging but I don’t. When a couple sits in front of me I see opportunities to grow and to learn to navigate the bumpy terrain of a relationship. I also see a couple longing to connect with each other but not knowing how. I am committed to helping you figure out how. I have the patience and dedication to see beyond the conflict and to try to understand what is personally going on for each of you and then help you to communicate that to your partner in a way they will understand.
On your therapy journey, I will treat you with dignity and respect and I honor the wisdom that is already inside of you. I believe that therapy is a collaboration between therapist and client so we will work together to achieve your goals.
My therapeutic approach/ My education
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in English and Religious Studies from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Arts degree in Counselling from Providence College & Seminary and membership with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), as a Registered Psychotherapist. I have 10 years of clinical counselling experience and a vast amount of group facilitation experience. I am also an approved Supervisor with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO).
In my couples work, I used a mix of Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I also have training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Attachment-based Therapy.
I am trauma-informed, racial and intergenerational trauma informed, 2SLGTBQIA+ friendly and open to spirituality. I am also a certified Prepare and Enrich facilitator and offer pre-marital counselling.
When I’m not in the office, I am busy raising an active two year old with my partner and listening to personal finance podcasts.
Relationships are beautiful, ugly, easy, hard, bitter, sweet, perfect and imperfect. Let’s work together to uncover and re-discover all the hidden beauties of your relationship.
